The Black Panther movie is finally here! We ready! Saturday was Black Panther Day for my family. Yes, Black Panther day! It’s all we were talking about for most of the day and even after seeing the movie. Our tickets were purchased in advance because we heard this movie was going to do numbers and that it did (201.8 million last weekend). We all had on our Black Panther t-shirts and was so hype to finally be going to the theater to see this movie. I was never really a superhero fan, but that changed for me when I met my husband. One of the biggest Marvel and DC superhero fans I know is my husband and he has the whole family into seeing all the superhero movies now. I think I was almost as hype as he was to see it!

Black Panther Movie Review
Everyone that hasn’t seen the movie yet wants to know did the Black Panther movie live up to the hype? It definitely lived up to the hype and was everything we wanted to see and more! Marvel movies are always good and this one is no different. You don’t have to be a comic book or superhero fan to love this movie! Trust me! There are some great funny one-liners which give the movie some comic relief. It is action packed with a good story that will make you want to see it over and over again. Everyone in the theater clapped when the movie was over. Beleive me…you’re going to want to see this more than once. We are already planning a date night with NO KIDS so we can go and see this in the movie theater again and maybe this time in 3D. And you already know it’s going to be added to the hubs superhero collection of blurays when it hits the stores. I’m going to try to make this Black Panther movie review as spoiler free as possible so I’m not going to go into super detail about it.

Wakanda Forever!
Representation matters and we are repped all up and through this movie! We have never seen anything like this before in a superhero movie and it feels so amazing. We were proud when we walked up out of the theater! The movie is filled with phenomenal Black actors and actresses who all did an amazing job. You will want to visit Wakanda after seeing this even though it’s a fictional place. I’m so serious! Wakanda is so dope because it’s everything you have ever dreamed of. Wakanda is the most powerful and advanced place in the world with some of the smartest people in the world who are BLACK.
Black Kings and Queens
We are kings and queens and it’s such a lovely thing to see. Angela Bassett is Black Panther’s mom and she has so much style and grace. Chadwick Boseman does an amazing job as Black Panther. His African accent was on point and he is one of the smoothest and humble superheroes I have seen. I love seeing his bond with his sister Shuri who is a princess. I’m here for a Princess Shuri movie in the future!
Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) might just be our favorite character in the movie. He has a rough and tough side as you can see from the trailer, but we can relate to him in some ways and we definitely empathize with him too. It’s kind of like a love-hate relationship with his character. Michael B. Jordan is one of my absolute favorite actors so I was really excited to see him in this role and he didn’t disappoint. I’ve loved him in so many things from the TV show Parenthood to the movie Creed. When Killmonger was introduced in the movie, that’s when things really started to POP! He brought more to the storyline which has some deep messages. There are so many levels to this that you’re going to have to see it more than once to get all of the messages being told in this story.
Who Runs the World? GIRLS!
I am all about girl power as I have two daughters and want them to know that they can be anything they want to be. Girl power is displayed in so many ways throughout this movie. The women hold Wakanda down. There are powerful women for daaaaays! The women warriors are some of the baddest fighters I have ever seen. The fight scenes are so dope and feature both women and men. We are young, gifted, and black. Princess Shuri who is played by Letitia Wright is so bright! Shuri is easily my favorite female character in the movie. She’s brilliant and absolutely hilarious. Girls everywhere will look up to her and want to be just like her. Her personality is everything!

It was so cool to see one of our favs from The Walking Dead, Danai Gurira (Michonne) be one of the women warriors (Okoye) in the film. If you love her in The Walking Dead then you are definitely going to love her as Okoye! She is out here SLAYING in this movie in more ways than one. Her warrior skills are on point so much so that I bet you’ll rewind it to see her moves again when you’re able to watch it at home. Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia) also had bomb warrior skills and was another fav to see. She’s beautiful, independent, giving, caring, and knows what she wants in life.

Is Black Panther Kid Friendly?
A lot of parents are dying to know if it’s ok to take their children to see the Black Panther movie. If your kids have seen other Marvel movies then they will be totally fine seeing this. The hubs and I actually think this is one of the more kid friendly Marvel movies. Yes, there is a bad hand gesture and a few uses of the “s-word”, but that’s about it besides the typical weapons and fight scenes. My girls are used to watching superhero movies with their dad so we already knew this was a must-see for them. This movie was so good for the girls to see for so many of the reasons I mentioned earlier in the post. It also has a lot of great conversation starters in it as well.
Both of our girls did so well during this movie. We have an almost 3-year-old and a 7-year-old. Neither of them fell asleep and I only had to take the youngest to the bathroom once. They were totally into this movie and enjoyed every second of it. Jordyn (our oldest) said she felt happy after seeing this movie. I’m glad she did and we have so much more to discuss with her.
Don’t Miss the Very End!
A lot of people that aren’t really into superhero movies don’t know that Marvel movies aren’t really over until they say it’s over. Marvel ALWAYS shows what’s to come. Don’t get up and leave when the first movie credits start to roll…there’s more. The true Marvel heads are going to be looking at you like you’re crazy if you hop up out of your seat to leave.
According to Wikia.com, post-credits scenes are a recurring staple in the feature films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where a clip is shown during and/or after the ending credits. The clip usually foreshadows future films, resolves a plotline from the film, or provides comic relief. So don’t leave or you will be missing out!
Come along with us as we get hype to see the Black Panther movie. See our Black Panther movie experience below on our family vlog channel on YouTube. This is a must see movie and is one of the best Marvel movies we have seen! We give this movie 5 stars if you haven’t figured that out by now. Make sure y’all go out and support our wonderful Black actors and actresses! We are already showing up and showing out so let’s keep it going!
