I do not claim to be an expert about dogs, however, I am an expert in what works for me and my family. I am simply a dog lover and this is simply a fun blog about my life and my life with my dog. I will post information such as product reviews and things that I find helpful or interesting about Miniature Schnauzers and dogs in general. I also share my life as a new mom and share glimpses of my family life.
When I became pregnant I started blogging about my pregnancy and my baby. My family also has a family vlog that my wonderful husband started in July 2014! Click here to check out our daily family vlog channel, Meet the Chambers and subscribe.
With this blog and our vlog I hope to give helpful tips on having a dog and being a mommy and wife. I love sharing my experiences with others whether it be with our use of products or our day to day experiences. My husband and I are told all of the time that we are an inspiring young black family and I hope to continue to inspire and inform with the use of my blog and vlog.

About Kia Chambers
Hello there! I’m Kia Chambers. I got married on May 3, 2014! We have a blended family. My bonus daughter whom I love like my own is 10 years old and my biological daughter is 5 years old. I also now have a 1 year old son!
I’m a UNCG Alumni. I graduated in 2010 with a B.S. in Information Systems and Operations Management. I’m in North Carolina. I’m currently a Senior Quality Engineer. I test software for different clients and have been doing so for 8+ years now. I heart technology & social media! I’m trying to figure out where I fit in this forever changing tech world & I believe blogging is one of those places! I’ve always loved to write.
Why I Created this Blog
I created this WordPress blog about my wonderful dog Simba because I have never had a self-hosted WordPress blog and I wanted some experience with it. As I got older…our family grew so the blog started to include my life as a new wife and mother as well. I’ve had personal blogs before from Tumblr, Live Journal, and even an Xanga way back when. I noticed that WordPress is used a lot and especially by business professionals so I decided to become familiar with it. I also want to improve my writing skills, social media skills, photoshop skills, HTML, CSS, javascript skills and more.
I’ve always been interested in creating websites, creating content, and keeping people informed. The first website I made on my own was when I was about 15. I made a lot. I made several for musicians that I liked or that didn’t currently have a fan site. So many! I made one for B2K, Jhene, and Mario. Also, I made Myspace layouts, edited photos for friends, created a new website as the webmaster for the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society while I was at UNCG, and more which you can see some things on my Flickr account.
I also want to learn more about photography because I love taking photos. My husband enjoys recording and taking photos as well. Most of the really AWESOME photos of Simba and our family that you see have been captured by him and I. You can see his photography on Facebook. Like his page JChambers Photography!
My Blogging and Social Media Experience
In 2010, after meeting the rapper that is signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. music label, Big Sean, I made a Tumblr page for him because nobody else had done so. I also made it because I thought he was talented and humble and simply because I like doing things of that nature. Eventually, Lola came across my fan Tumblr and she told him about it.
I then received a message from his tour manager telling me I was doing a good job and that he wanted me to update Big Sean’s official Tumblr page which also posted to his Facebook page. I found information and pictures about Sean and posted it to his official Tumblr which I think is pretty cool.
Sean said that he should pay me for all that I do, but for now I receive access to his shows and get to hang out with him before/after the show. I’ve also met a lot of cool people in the process. Who knows, it could lead to an awesome job one day. I no longer post to his official Tumblr, but I did it for almost 2 years. It was fun and a great experience!
After a while of trying to figure out where I belong in this tech world, I realized I was very interested in digital communications and social media. I’ve been thinking about going to grad school, but I wanted to be sure I knew exactly what I wanted to do before going back.
My trusty friend Google helped me find a program at Elon University called Interactive Media that I’m thinking about applying to. I still haven’t decided if I wanted to go back to grad school yet or not, but we shall see. In the meantime, I’m just trying to brush up on skills that I already have as well as learn new ones.
I decided to find a mentor or an internship to enlighten me about digital communications and social media. Of course, I went to Google because Google is my friend! I find everything with Google so that’s usually where I start when I want to find information. I found internships.com (which is an AWESOME site to find all kinds of internships!) and from there I found a virtual internship with @AnoraMcGaha.
So I decided to ask her about the internship through Twitter and we talked over the phone and set something up to see if this virtual internship would work for us. I wrote my first professional blog post and she liked my work and my drive so I officially became a virtual intern!
I was a Social Media Manager Intern and managed social media programs through Martin Brossman & Associates or ClearSight PR for 4 months. This internship was definitely very valuable to me. I’m glad I found the internship as well as a mentor in Anora. I have learned a lot that I can apply in the future and even now to this blog!
This blog has definitely become more than just a hobby for me and I enjoy watching it grow and become more than I’ve ever imagined. I’ve written for other sites and have even been featured as a top pet blogger! I’ve been able to work with numerous brands that I love and if you’re a brand reading this…I might be interested in working with you too!
I hope you enjoy my blog about my awesome Simba and my beautiful family.
