Beautiful illustrations in children’s books is a must-have for my 2-year-old. She really loves picture books and pointing out what’s going on in the book by looking at all of the pictures. I can already tell that she’s going to love to read just like her mommy and I love it! Reading is one of her favorite things to do and she doesn’t even know how to do it yet! She loves to pretend to read a book every chance she gets. We received a nice surprise in the mail last week and she couldn’t wait to read it with mommy.

About When God Made Light by Matthew Paul Turner
Pages: 48
Age Range: 3-7 years
When God Made Light is a beautiful children’s story about how God created light. It displays how beautiful light is and not only in the vibrant illustrations but in the rhythmic and rhyming prose as well. Children will learn how to appreciate all kinds of light from the light they see to the light that shines inside of them.
Our Thoughts on When God Made Light
Our girls loved When God Made Light just as much as they loved When God Made You. David Catrow’s illustrations are absolutely amazing! The beautiful illustrations definitely kept the girls’ attention. I just love a good children’s book with good artwork and it appears that David Catrow never disappoints! The girls can relate to the illustrations so well because both characters are Black with braids and they even have a dog! Representation matters and I will continue to fill their bookshelves with books with characters that look just like them.

Matthew Paul Turner is an amazing writer. The rhyming and flow of the words are just as beautiful as the illustrations. The words are playful and comforting and make the story come alive. The book is easy to read and understand. My 7-year-old had a lot of fun reading this book herself. I had to help with a few words, but she did a good job reading it. We are so loving this book! It’s a good conversation starter to talk more about God, his love for us, and the light he put inside of us.

This book can be read over and over again and never get old. I just love how it starts off talking about how the light appeared and then goes into why it was made. It explains what you should do in the light and even what you should do when the light goes away. This book will really make kids look at light differently and adults too! We should appreciate and thank God for the amazing light he created. Not only did he create the light of the world, but the light that shines in all of us. How amazing is that? This book has so many wonderful messages in it!

Just like the previous book, this book is the perfect bedtime story to read right before we say our prayers. I’m sure my oldest daughter will grab this book off the bookshelf to read to her little sister on her own too. This book will definitely be a favorite in this house and you should definitely give it a read.
