There is more and more talk about the West Nile Virus. More cases are getting reported everyday. The West Nile Virus is a virus that is spread by annoying mosquitoes. Oh how I hate mosquitoes! There has been five cases of the virus here in NC and two people have passed away from it according to My Fox 8. Scary right? Pets can also get the virus so be cautious of those pesky mosquitoes when taking your dog outside. Thankfully, this virus seems to not have touched dogs…yet. Hopefully it doesn’t at all. How can you protect your dog or other pets from the virus just to be safe? Well, pawnation.com states, “Pets cannot transmit West Nile virus to humans. However, owners should still try to protect their dogs and cats from the possibility of being bitten. Mosquitoes are most present during dawn and dusk and around standing water.”

So keep your pets in during dawn and dusk and get rid of any standing water in your house. Also protect yourself! Use mosquito repellent, but of course don’t just spray that on your dog! You should check before you use anything on your dog or other pets to make sure it’s safe. Just be careful and stay informed!
