I’ve been wanting to teach Simba some basic tricks, but just haven’t had the time to do so. I purchased a Top Paw™ Bone Clickers from PetSmart a while back and I’ve really just started using it as of Wednesday! It’s very easy to use and it really works! It has Simba doing a couple of tricks already…or is it the treats that are making him learn these tricks? LOL! Either way I’m really excited that he’s catching on pretty fast. I knew he was a smarty pants!
What is Clicker Training?
Clicker training is basically training your dog with a clicker like the one pictured above. You will tell your dog to do something like “sit” for example and as soon as he does it you will press the clicker and it will make a click sound. This let’s the dog know that he did exactly what you wanted him to do. After you click you will also give him a treat and tell him “good boy” or whatever it is that you say to let him know that he did the right thing. This is called positive reinforcement. Your dog will love that! What dog doesn’t love getting lots of tricks and a pat on the head repeatedly? If your dog doesn’t get it exactly right you won’t press the clicker and he doesn’t get a treat. You continue this process until your dog gets it. It didn’t take Simba long at all to figure out what was going on. I think this is a great and easy way to train a dog.
How to Train a Dog with a Clicker
I came across the YouTube channel KikoPup which I think is a very good dog training channel! The trainer Emily goes into detail about what clicker training is and how to train a dog with a clicker. I basically told you how training a dog with a dog clicker works above, but Emily goes into more detail and even shows you how to do it. You can find out all the basic dog training on her site here and more! I hope this is as helpful to you as it is to me.
Simba’s First Dog Tricks
My love taught Simba a couple of tricks already using the clicker. He is learning quite fast! So far he knows how to stand up, lay down, roll over, and jump over things. The little one was so excited that we were teaching him things that she wanted to help so we let her. Talk about cute! I love how they interact with each other. I haven’t uploaded all of the videos to our YouTube channel yet, but I have two available for your viewing pleasure so far. I hope you enjoy Simba in action and subscribe to our YouTube channel because there will definitely be more!
How do you train your pet? Do you use clicker training? Is it working? What tricks does your pet know? Do you have a YouTube channel for your pet/blog?
Everyone raves about clicker training but mom doesn’t want to have to carry a clicker around with her, so don’t know if we will ever try it or not. We do pretty well without it so far but most people say it makes training us pups much easier.

It’s totally pawsome Emma, trust! I’m sure your mom carries around her cell phone right? Well, there’s an app for that! Tell your mom to search for dog clicker apps on her cell phone…maybe she’ll try it then 🙂 It looks like you are already well trained though! xoxo Simba
Good work, Simba! Mom just started clicker training with me last week. When she watched your videos, I listened very hard, because your clicker sounds just like mine!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Really!? Cool! What did you learn so far? xoxo Simba
Good job Simba! Shiner knows a few basic tricks that she learned when she was young. To tell the truth, I don’t remember exactly how I taught them to her lol… I’ve wanted to clicker train my rat, because they can also be taught tricks the same way but like you haven’t had much time for it.
