The first day of school for our kindergartner has finally come and gone. It was a good first day for Jordyn. She was a little nervous about going into a big school for the very first time. She didn’t get to go to pre-k so this was a totally new experience for her outside of daycare. My husband and I talked to her about several different situations to prepare her for her first day of kindergarten. We made sure she knew what to expect and gave her helpful tips to ease her mind. She still had lots of butterflies when she was getting ready for the big day that morning, but everyone has butterflies on the first day of school right? I know I did!
It was a little hectic that morning as we walked her into school and into her classroom. The hustle and bustle was a little overwhelming and I’m not going to lie I was a tad bit overwhelmed for her. Some kids were crying which was expected, but Jordyn was a big girl and kept her cool. We stayed around for a little bit as she got settled into her classroom. We all said our goodbyes and it was kind of hard just leaving her there, but we knew she’d be just fine.
The first day was pretty much just an evaluation day so she got to experience the first day twice in a sense. The first OFFICIAL day of kindergarten happened on her birthday. Yep, she got to kick school off on her birthday which was actually pretty cool. Her teacher, who is super nice, let her wear a birthday crown all day. She felt super special. We also ate lunch with her and gave her entire class cupcakes. It was a good day and I’m sure it will go down in her book of memories.
Before I know it she will be in high school about to graduate and getting ready for college. Life seems to move at super fast speeds when you have children! I’m not ready for her to grow up, but at the same time I can’t wait to see the awesome young woman she will become. I am so proud of her and so thankful that she is really enjoying school. She has so much she wants to share and the more she talks about things it amazes me with how much she is growing up already. Cheers to the first day of kindergarten and to many more firsts on the way!
