So you call yourself a dog mom? Me too! Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t be a dog mom. Your kid has 4 paws and nothing is wrong with that. I get it. You have a special bond with your dog. A connection. Your dog is family.
I still consider myself a dog mom even though I’m a human mom now too. Yes, you can be both! My dog Simba was my first kiddo. He is the first dog I have had in my adult life. Let me tell you, the responsibility of having a dog is very similar to having a human child. Dogs need attention, love, vet visits, good food, exercise, protection, and the list goes on and on.
“You Can’t be a Mom to a Dog!”
Um, why not? You may get weird looks for calling yourself a dog mom or a pet parent because of course, you didn’t birth your dog, but who cares? There are HUMAN moms out there that didn’t birth their children. There are foster moms, adoptive moms, and even those that call people mom because they are a mom-like figure to them. Dog mom, you are definitely a mom-like figure to your dog. Honestly, your dog probably loves you way more than any human ever will LOL.
Crazy Dog Lady
Celebrate your dog’s birthday! Go all out if you want to. Bake him that dog cake. Get him that new toy. Take him to Starbucks to get a puppuccino. Have dog playdates. Travel with your dog and see the world. Include your dog in your family photos. Have your dog in your wedding. Let your dog sleep in your bed. Let him match your fly. Wear matching tees. Get a matching bracelet to go with his dog collar. Wear matching pajamas. Sign the family Christmas greeting cards and include your dog’s name too. DO ALL THE THINGS THAT MAKE YOU A “CRAZY” DOG LADY. There’s nothing wrong with being crazy about your dog. You should be!
Dog Mom for Life
There are different reasons we call ourselves dog moms. Some choose to because they’d rather have kids who have paws than a human and that’s perfectly fine. Others choose to because their dog is just simply a part of their family and she is the caretaker of the dog. My bond with my dog is out of this world and I’ll be a dog mom for life! People may think you’re weird or crazy because they just don’t get it, but I get it! Other dog lovers get it. There is a community of dog moms out there. We roll deep! Just look around.
If you want to be a dog mom, you can be one, just be a good one!

Commited for life! That’s the key no matter if kids, cats, new living situation, whatever. You take them on you commit to them. I don’t understand people who feel differently
I am totally a Dog Mom as well as a crazy dog lady & proud of it! I do pretty much all the same things with my dogs that most people do with their pets, except I don’t ever have to pay for college or lend them the car LOL!! I like your shirts, the design is pretty and they get to the point!

Yay to dog moms! I’m a proud dog mom. I even let my sweeties write on my blog. Maybe they make up for the fact that I don’t have kids, but honestly, dogs are less problematic than human children and less expensive. I love children and I’m normally the fun aunt with the yummy sweets in our family. lol. But I prefer raising dogs, not children. I was on the other side of not getting the whole dog mom thing until Buffy came into my life and then Fluffy. I want nr. 3 maybe next year. Your Simba is super cute. 🙂

I’m a proud cat mom, so yes let’s celebrate being pet parents. I even joke that my oldest 17 year cat is my first born. I don’t have two legged kids but I’m still the cool aunt who is called upon to do face paintings at kids parties. Nieces are cool too, but kitties are part of my family and they get treated like family!

You make a great point about human moms who didn’t give birth to their child but they are still considered a mom. Why shouldn’t that be the case with a dog! I’ve never referred to myself as a dog mom but I do consider myself a pet parent, and my animals are a very important part of my life and I consider them family.
This is an awesome dog blog. I totally agree that you can be a dog mom. I’m a dog mom to 2 dogs. I don’t have children, but my dogs are like my kids, and I treat them as though they are. I love them and provide them with everything they need.
Dog moms are a special breed! Being a dog mom is a rewarding way to share more love and helps build more character. Pet parents understand having a dog is very similar to having a furry child and the dogs appreciate the extra attention and love.
