Black people love pets too if you didn’t know! There appears to be a stereotype that we don’t like dogs or other pets like that, but that’s totally not true. There are plenty of Black pet parents out there and I’m going to help you find them if you’re looking for them.
Black Pet Parents are Here!
When I first made a pet account for my dog Simba on Instagram (@rawrsimba) and this blog back in 2012, I didn’t see many with pet accounts that looked like me. But we outchea!
The pet industry isn’t that diverse as you probably have noticed or you’re noticing it now that I’ve mentioned it. How many Black people with pets have you seen in pet-related ads or campaigns that you’ve seen on social media? Not many right?
Here’s an example too…I’ve had a hard time finding Black Pet Parents images to use in my blog posts. I’m seeing many more now which is great, but those who are not people of color don’t have these kinds of problems.
Read this post “What My Dog’s Instagram Account Taught Me About Race” by @Gingers_naps sums it all right up for you perfectly! I just love Kassidi, Ginger, and their Instagram account! I mention more about her later in this post so make sure you keep reading.
I’ve connected with plenty of Black pet parents recently on social media and especially in 2020 because I came across Black people making accounts telling everyone that we love pets too! I love to see it and I’m excited to share this list of Black pet parent pages with you. Make sure you subscribe to our newsletter so you get notified about upcoming posts such as Black Pet Parents to follow on social media, Black Pet Businesses to shop with, and more!

Black Pet Parent List
Kassidi shares her experience being a first time dog mom on IG. As a Black dog mom, she noticed that the pet space on social media and the pet industry is predominantly white. So she created a HUGE list of Black pet parents on Instagram which includes all Black everything from pet parents, Black-owned pet businesses, animal rescues, groomers, trainers, and pets.
Click HERE to listen to her “The Black Dog Mom’s POV” episode on the With a Dog Podcast. It’s a very good listen and will help you understand what it’s like to be a Black Pet Parent if you’re wondering what the difference is.
@Gingers_naps did a lovely job putting this list together! Thanks so much for doing that. We all really appreciate it!
