Did you know that senior dogs have a hard time finding their forever homes? Most people want to bring home a puppy and look right past a dog that’s older. Senior dogs need love too and they can be just as amazing as a puppy.
My dog Simba will be a senior dog next year. He will still be an amazing loving dog even if he moves a little slower or may not like to play as much. I hope he has many more years with us and I’m thankful that I’ll have a senior dog around.

About Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary
The Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary in Mt. Juliet began in April 2012 right in Michael and Zina Goodins’ very own home. They later purchased an old garden center with much more space for all the senior dogs.
Years ago the Goodins noticed all the older dogs that needed homes and decided to do something about it. The Goodins created a program where senior dogs would always have a home. One thousand senior dogs and counting have found forever homes through their program.

Our Thoughts on Homecoming Tales
Homecoming Tales is an amazing book filled with love for senior dogs. It’s an easy read for our 4th grader. Some words that a child may not know are bolded and the definition is within the sentence or defined right after. There is also a glossary in the back. I like that! Another nice addition in the book is recipes for dogs. Kids can learn how to make dog food or dog treats along with a parent which can be fun!
I love the fact that the book taught us about the struggles of senior dogs and all the work and love Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary put in to make sure they have a forever home. We get to find out how the sanctuary started and how it’s flourishing today. The stories about senior dogs are very heartwarming and it was cool to get to know a little bit about each dog.
We loved the illustrations of the dogs that were sprinkled in as well as the full-color photos that really brought the sanctuary to life. The sidebar of tips and tidbits of information and facts about dogs was a really nice touch. This book is perfect for any dog lover!
This is a good book for kids to learn about different dog breeds, how to care for older dogs, and how to make sure they continue to give their senior dog the love that he needs.
