I am still at a loss for words with all of the tragedy that has happened last week from Alton Sterling to all of the lives that were lost even before that. I’m hurting. It’s absolutely heartbreaking and draining. Every day it seems that there is something horrible going on. I was simply scrolling down my Facebook timeline the other night and I witnessed the aftermath on a Facebook Live video of Philando Castile being shot by a police and all he did was comply.
I just don’t know what to say. I really don’t have the words to describe how that made me feel. What I do know and do feel is these three simple words: BLACK LIVES MATTER. The way I see it Black Lives Matter does NOT mean that other lives do not matter, but that until Black lives matter all lives can’t. Black lives matter too and it seems that many are forgetting that or just don’t care. All lives will matter when Black Lives Matter. It’s as simple as that.

All of the situations are quite sad and devastating from the innocent Black lives that have lost their lives at the hands of police to the innocent police that have lost their lives. Nobody is saying that all cops are bad, but the policing system is definitely flawed and everyone needs to realize that there IS indeed an issue here. SOME police abuse their power and that is NOT okay. It’s not okay for me to fear for my husband’s life if he gets pulled over by police. It’s quite sad to have to explain all of this nonsense to my daughters. It’s like the world is going backward instead of forward with change or has it ever really changed at all?

The killing must stop. I don’t have the answer, but it’s a must that we figure it out. It’s truly scary and I fear for the life of my kids, my husband’s life, my life, and all of my other family members and friend’s lives. Things seem to only be getting worse. Click HERE for a list of resources for ways you can support and share that Black Lives Matter with others. I do know that in some kind of way we must all come together and figure something out so that all lives can matter, but right now they don’t. We all need to pray daily and ask God for guidance on how to make Black lives matter too. My kid’s lives matter. My husband’s life matters. My life matters. Black Lives Matter. We have to make the world see it.
Update: Take a moment to view this touching video with such powerful words. My husband helped shoot the video. Feel free to share!

Kia, I feel for you and your family and friends. It pains me to know that my friends are treated this way no matter how good, how successful, or how hardworking they are. There’s literally no “respectability” obstacle you can overcome that would discount the racism. The Obamas are the First Family and they’re still described with disgusting racist slurs. Can you honestly aim for higher than that??
There’s simply no way that “All Lives Matter” when it’s evident that Black lives are not valued, unless they mean All Lives Matter Except Black Lives. I suspect that’s the real truth. I hate that my black friends always live under the cloud of “well if you didn’t [x], then you wouldn’t have been treated this way”. That’s manifestly not true, as we see time and time again. I don’t understand why we can’t see that. I thought it was most striking when Jane Elliott asked a room of white people to stand up if they would be happy to be treated the way black people are in our society and no one stood up. Clearly, even if they’re not aware of how deeply it runs, people know how you’re treated and know they don’t want to be treated that way.
Whenever someone says “well they shouldn’t have [X]”, I ask, “what crime would they have to commit to deserve to be executed on the spot?” We don’t do that to anyone else – we don’t execute rapists, murderers, or stalkers in the street. Why is it ok for black people to die because they were stopped for a broken tail light by a racist cop?
And the fact that people think that saying “bad cops are bad cops” means that all cops are bad is telling as well. It’s like the men who say “Not all men!” when we’re discussing sexism. You don’t hear that from the men who aren’t sexist creeps. They KNOW not all men are and they KNOW there is a problem. Likewise with good cops. They know they are good cops but they also know that bad cops exist, and the really good cops care about that.
I don’t understand but I’m here to say that I stand with you.
