Black fathers do exist! The media focuses on the absent Black father and usually portrays Black fathers in a negative light. We partnered with Divergent Media to show the world that Black fathers are not absent. There are plenty of Black men that play an active role in their children’s lives. My husband is one of them. He has always been there for his girls and always will. He is involved in everything they do and wants to be there every step of the way as he should be. His role in our children’s lives is just as important as mine. Sometimes fathers get the short end of the stick like the mothers are the only ones that truly matter, but that’s not true. Our Black fathers are needed. We appreciate all the Black fathers out there and want to change the way the world looks at you.

First off, beautiful video!
Interesting to read this post here today because just this morning I was thinking about one of my favorite writers, Walter Mosley.
If you haven’t read him, Mosley is most famous for his Easy Rawlins detective character. And every reviewer in the world talks about his stories about black life in Los Angeles in the 1970s. And they are great.
But what stands out even more about his writing is that he always portrays black dads. Every book of his I’ve ever read puts a huge emphasis on fatherhood.
It’s a rare and beautiful thing. I can’t think of any mystery writers who EVER talk about such things. And when Mosley does it, he’s being revolutionary. It’s wonderful to see him celebrating black fatherhood in a world where our systems put huge barriers in the way of black dads. And then criticizes them for not being perfect fathers.
So if you’re looking for a good gift for Black Father’s Day, maybe you want to pick up a Walter Mosley book.

I agree with this so much,. There some good dads in the world, but why focus on the good ones when the bad is all they looking at? It’s sad. Show the real dad some type of love.

This is a great post! My husband is a great father to our 2 children. Black father’s need to be celebrated more. Love it!
I’m single mom of three and although their dad is absent, I’ve been so blessed to have such awesome “father figures” in their lives. I celebrate my dad, and my brothers and my kids mentors on Father’s Day. They may not be biological but they are part of my village helping me to raise strong young men! Even if the dad’s are not around, I celebrate the black fathers that “father’ my children as if they were their own! Great Dads and Father Figures definitely exist and should be celebrated!!! Awesome video!
So, this was amazing. It is so important to inject as many positive images as we can into the media and I loved seeing this. It is easy to focus on “deadbeat dads” and the “epidemic” it is, but to be honest. I have seen nothing but great Fathers, some single, some not biologically, all that seem to love fatherhood. Again, great post sis! Totally sharing.
