When I was a child my mom dressed me up in everything purple. Purple was her favorite color and I guess she lowkey wanted purple to be my favorite too. I think it’s safe to say that she was pretty obsessed with purple. I had a lot of purple clothes and other purple items like a little purple chair. My mom bought me so many purple things that I began to dislike purple. I disliked purple so much that I wanted absolutely nothing to do with it. My favorite color is blue, but pink is definitely my second favorite color. I’m sure if my mom dressed me up in pink like she did with purple I probably wouldn’t like it as much. As I got older though I actually became a fan of purple along with many other different colors.

A lot of little girls love the color pink. Girls are usually put in pink when they are born and receive a lot of pink clothing. It’s just the normal thing to do right? Many see pink as a girly color, but the family in the book Anything But Pink wanted absolutely nothing to do with the color pink. My mom was the total opposite of the parents in this book which makes for an interesting read.
About Anything But Pink by Adelina Winfield
Pages: 15

At a baby shower for a baby girl I’m sure you won’t be surprised to see pink decorations and pink gifts right? But would you be surprised to see absolutely no pink and no pink gifts for the baby? In the children’s book Anything But Pink the parents to be asked their baby shower guests not to bring anything pink because all baby girls wear pink. They wanted their baby girl to be different. So there was no pink at the baby shower or even in the little girl Starri’s life for a long time until one day she decided she loved the color pink.
Our Thoughts on Anything But Pink
Anything But Pink is a fun read! It will definitely keep a younger child’s attention. My kids wanted to know what was going to happen next. The words flowed lovely. We loved the beautiful illustrations and how colorful the book is. My 6 year old thought it was a little mean for the parents not to let their daughter have anything with the color pink because the color pink is awesome! However, she also thought it was super weird for Starri to become so obsessed with the color pink. She thought Starri loved the color pink so much that her skin might even turn pink!
I loved how Starri had a mind of her own and wanted to like pink, but then I’m glad that her parents explained to her that “variety is the spice of life” too! All colors are beautiful and there’s no need to be obsessed with one or disliking one so much. This book can be used to touch on other topics too if you want to get a little deep. Kids will really enjoy this cute and fun book. Also little girls like mine will enjoy seeing themselves represented in their very own book. I loved that Starri had curly hair and all that melanin!
